The causes that led to the beginning of Cold War are a pretty debatable issue. While the British side was afraid of the USSR presence on the territory of Europe, the USA wanted to see Germany free and open for their products. The soviet power was an obstacle for both. At the very end, the last cause for the Cold War was the time when the USSR acquired the knowledge to produce nuclear weapon. Taking into account the fact that the War was tightly linked to the nuclear technology, some historians are still sure that the Cold War was caused by the USSR challenge to the USA nuclear power that was shown at the end of the WWII at Hiroshima and Nagasaki. To my humble opinion, the most important thing to remember when pondering over the causes behind the Cold War is the most definite cause. Emily, from â€Å"A Rose for Emily† by William Faulkner is an outcast from her town and she kills a man. Mama and Emily have many characteristics of a great protagonist but Tessie Hutchison is my favorite. I believe that a great protagonist must come from a great story. â€Å"The Lottery† is a story that is like nothing I have every read before. I found it very intriguing; therefore, I believe it made Tessie a great protagonist. At the beginning of the story Tessie forgot what the day was and arrived late to the lottery. Tessie would have never argued if someone else would have won, thus making her a hypocrite. If I put myself in Tessie’s shoes I could see myself reacting the way she does and that made her my favorite protagonist. Emily Grierson, from â€Å"A Rose for Emily† was a sick and twisted character. Throughout the story she was an outsider from society. There were three particular events that made me think how disgusting this character is. First, when Emily’s father died she kept his body for a few days and refused to give it up. Second, Emily killed a man named Homer Barron because she was afraid he would have abandoned her. Lastly, forty years after Homer passed away a locked door was broken down in her house and the townspeople found Homers body with a long strand of Emily’s hair; therefore, Emily had been sleeping with a dead man. With Tessie I could relate to her actions but with Emily I would react the complete opposite to what she did. With Tessie I sympathized because she had no control of the outcome but with Emily I did not feel bad that she was an outsider. Mama, from â€Å"Everyday Use† is a loving single mother to her two daughters Dee and Maggie. Dee and Mama are not very close to each other; therefore, when Dee asked to have her families priceless quilts Mama said no. Mama wanted to give them to Maggie instead because Maggie would use them every day. Mama believed that even though Maggie might ruin the quilts by sleeping with them at least she would respect their family’s heritage unlike Dee. Mama is a loving character but I felt that there are many characters very similar to Mama. Mama might have been a great person but that does not make her a great protagonist. I felt that I have never experienced a character like Tessie and because of that I preferred Tessie over Mama. Tessie Hutchinson was my favorite protagonist compared to Emily Grierson and Mama. Emily was very creepy and I had no interest in her character. With Mama I sympathized for her but I felt that I have read many stories with characters similar to her. If I were to put myself in Tessie’s shoes I could see myself reacting very similar to her. Tessie was like no other character I have ever read before and I found that very intriguing. Out of these three stories â€Å"The Lottery† was my favorite and Tessie played a key role in making it a great story.
